The code connects the application to a stored photo
A UK passport photo code lets the online application retrieve the digital image supplied by a participating photo shop or booth. You enter the code, see the retrieved photograph and review it before submitting. The code is not simply a number printed on any photo receipt.
When buying that service, ask explicitly whether it includes a UK passport photo code. A downloadable JPEG, a print set and a code are separate deliverables. A business can provide one without providing the others.
Check the image that appears after entering the code
Make sure the retrieved photograph is yours and that it is the intended frame. Check the orientation and visible content rather than assuming that a successful retrieval proves the photograph is acceptable. The application still needs a picture that follows its photo rules.
Keep the code and the supplier’s contact information until your application is complete. If the wrong image appears or the retrieval fails, the supplier is the useful first contact for a problem with the stored photograph or the code it issued.
A normal download may still belong to a different route
UK guidance also describes taking a photo with help using your own device during the online application. Follow the instructions for that route if it is the one you choose. Do not assume you must purchase a code simply because one is offered as an option.
Merodim’s standard digital output should be treated as an image file unless the product explicitly says that a UK photo code is included. A generic link to a download or an order number is not a substitute for the supported code service.
Check age and suitability before reusing a saved code
A code that can still retrieve a photograph does not establish that the photo remains recent enough for a new application. Review when the picture was taken and the current instructions before using an older receipt or email.
If you need a new photograph, arrange a new capture rather than asking for a new code attached to an old image. Keep the supplier’s deliverables clear from the start so you receive the file, prints or retrieval code that your chosen application route actually needs.
