THE MERODIM APPROACH

Editorial standards

Clear guidance starts with reliable sources. Here is how we explain photo requirements, put them in context and make the details easy to check.

01

Start with the source

For document-specific requirements, we look to the issuing authority or its authorized application service. Our guides link to those instructions so you can check the basis for a size, format or capture requirement. For software and printing advice, we use documentation from the provider. Forum discussions can reveal useful questions, but they do not replace an official requirement.

02

Keep each application in context

The same country can have different instructions for a passport, a visa and a license. Even one document may have separate rules for a paper application and an online renewal. We identify the route, distinguish physical dimensions from pixel dimensions and call out cases that need an approved photographer or an appointment. A general photo-size tool does not establish that every application accepts that format.

03

Separate requirements from practical advice

We distinguish the authority’s requirements from our practical tips for taking a better photo. Guides identify the relevant application route and link to the instructions behind the advice. Where a choice affects how a photo can be used, we explain it at the relevant step. Final acceptance rests with the receiving authority.

04

Make the examples clear

Website demonstrations use fictional portraits, including AI-generated source images. These illustrate capture, framing and output formats without presenting real people as customers. Our processing example shows a saved Merodim result alongside its source and identifies what its measurements describe. Demonstration portraits are separate from customer photo preparation, which should preserve the person’s natural facial features.

Take responsibility for the guidance

Guides are published under the Merodim name. We are responsible for making them useful, readable and traceable to their sources. Claims about performance and acceptance need supporting evidence. Where we discuss a statistic, its source, time period and scope belong with the claim. Merodim is an independent service and does not represent an issuing authority.

Recheck what can change

Requirements and submission systems can change. A review date records when the relevant source was checked, rather than promising that the instructions will remain unchanged. When revising guidance, we check the affected requirement and the application route it applies to. The current instructions in your application and any notice from the authority should be checked before submission.

07

Give corrections a clear starting point

If a guide appears out of date or conflicts with an official instruction, send us the Merodim page, the source link and the exact document or application route. A short description of the difference helps us identify what needs checking. Please leave passport numbers, identity documents and unrelated personal details out of the message.
