Decide whether you need a new photograph or only a print

Start with the task. If you still need someone to take the picture, look for the retailer’s passport-photo service. If you already have a suitable digital file, look at the ordinary photo-printing options and confirm that the local service can handle your prepared layout.

Walmart and CVS advertise passport-photo services, while Walgreens lists standard print products including 4 × 6 prints. These are independent retailers, not Merodim partners. Availability, prices and the way an individual store handles supplied files should be checked directly before you travel or order.

Show the complete sheet in the order preview

For a prepared print sheet, select the same paper dimensions used to create the layout. A single square portrait is not automatically a ready-to-print 4 × 6 file. If you select it for a larger print, the service may expand it across the paper.

Inspect the whole preview, including the edges of the sheet and the gaps between photos. Avoid a collage or wallet-print product unless you know its exact output dimensions. A familiar product name does not prove that each individual photograph will match your application.

Ask practical questions before paying

If you are unsure, ask whether the service will print the supplied sheet without changing its scale and whether any automatic enhancement will be applied. Ask about the paper finish required by your document. Explain that you are supplying a completed layout rather than asking the store to invent a passport crop.

Do not assume that the lowest advertised print price includes capture, checking, cutting or a digital copy. Review the actual basket and the collection location. For an urgent application, confirm the collection time with the store rather than treating a general same-day label as a guaranteed appointment.

Check the prints before submitting them

Measure a finished photo after collection. Check for an enlarged crop, missing borders or a color shift that was not obvious on the screen. Inspect the eyes and hair for blur or visible printing artifacts, and keep the surface free of marks while cutting and storing the copies.

If the print is wrong but the supplied file is correct, describe the printing problem to the retailer and keep the original file available. Repeatedly editing the portrait to compensate for a scaling setting can make the next attempt harder to diagnose.
